Diff 2025:
Our first full year
Welcome to Diff, our new annual review of operations throughout the year. 2025 has been a busy year for WikiOasis, so without further ado let’s begin the recap.
- We’ve grown from serving less than 100 communities at the start of the year to now being the home of over 400.
- Similarly, our user base has grown by multiple orders of magnitude, at the time of writing, over 10,500 users are registered globally.
- We launched the WikiOasis Partner Program, to help give back to our flagship communities with additional support and resources from our team.
- It’s not just our user base that’s grown, supporting it requires an upgrade in server capacity. We have grown to 3 servers, with 2 bare metal machines providing a way for us to run more containers than ever before.
- We have grown our technology team from 3 people at the start of the year to 7 people, of which 4 are dedicated to the technology team.
Now let’s see what the future holds:
- Q1 2026: transition to a new bare metal cluster will be completed, further improving site reliability and performance.
- Q1 2026: upgrade to MediaWiki 1.45.
- Q1 2026: improvements to site stability, including creating a dedicated reliability department within the technology team to focus on stability.
- Q2 2026: improvements to our incident reporting and management system, including new on-call procedures and guidance.
- Q2 2026: deployment of Matomo to provide analytics to all wikis.
On behalf of our entire team, I would like to thank you all for your continued support of WikiOasis, and wish you an enjoyable Christmas and a happy new year.
A reminder that our team will be on break and may not respond to support requests until January 2nd.
Merry Christmas,
Thomas
